Yesterday, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, decried the 2nd Court of Appeals ruling and vowed to either have the ruling reversed or act legislatively to protect the rights of home schoolers.

"Every California child deserves a quality education, and parents should have the right to decide what's best for their children," Schwarzenegger said in response to the ruling, which said children educated at home must be taught by a credentialed teacher.

"Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children's education," Schwarzenegger said. "This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts, and if the courts don't protect parents' rights then, as elected officials, we will."

State Education Secretary David Long, a Schwarzenegger appointee, said that meant the governor supported allowing parents without teaching credentials to educate their children.

"The governor sees this as a fundamental right of parental choice," he said.

Go AHNOLD! Kudos to the good governor for taking swift action on this outrageous ruling by a rogue court. He is absolutely correct and I think this may ease the minds of many anxious homeschooling parents that faced the prospects of prosecution if they continue to do what they feel is in the best interests of their children.

This once again shows just how extreme and out of step the teachers unions are. They hailed the ruling and I'm sure would love to see home school parents rounded up and used as examples for their propaganda. These teacher's unions cause many of the problems that make parents remove their children from public schools in the first place. I'm sure they will be upset at the Governor's actions but they don't support him anyway so I do not think Schwarzenegger will be losing any thing over this, and only gains our thanks and continued admiration. The same cannot be said for the California legislature, which the teacher's union owns lock stock and barrel, so it may be difficult for the Governor to get laws changed. I know he's up to the task but our best hope may be to get a higher court to overturn the 2nd Court of appeals.

We will remember the name "Justice" H. Walter Croskey and his words that parents have no right to home school their children. If a future Democrat President nominates him to a federal judgeship we will fight to the fullest extent of our ability to keep him from being confirmed.
