Battered Flag Syndrome

Poor Old Glory.

It looks like Obama finally found a use for the American Flag. After disrespecting and ignoring her, refusing to hold her near his heart, and even fancying other flags from time to time, Old Glory can alway be counted on to stand by her man in a time of crisis.

You know, similar thoughts crossed my mind as I watched him enter the stage. Here's a guy who won't wear a lapel pin because he's afraid of "fake patriotism", and now for the most important speech of his life he's standing in front of 20 flags.

This is silly stuff, going back to Ronald Reagan's PR people always sending him on tours of flag factories because they loved the pictures.
No unpatriotic person would ever run for President of the United States, period.
BTW, did you know this is the fifth anniversary of Bush's invasion of Iraq?

Ken, you're dumbing down the debate.
If all we need to choose an elected official is a superficial flag pin, and a promise he will cross his heart at all times (as there are two schools of thought on the proper time to do so), then we are sunk as a nation of import, and have truly been over-run by the petty and the stupid.
Much like this blogpost.

I didn't notice that before. It's like Bush is saying, "I'm sorry I messed up," and Lincoln and Washington are saying, "Not as sorry as we are."

You totally missed the point. Obama has said he does not wear a flag lapel pin because his opposition to the war but when he is in trouble he surrounds himself with the flag. It's hypocritical and typical of people who will wrap themselves in the flag when they are in trouble.
